Rethymno, Greece - Competition on the European circuit for athletes associated with Texas A&M track and field included another stop in Greece during the 25th Vardinoyannia meeting on Monday.
Running in the 100 meters were a pair of Aggies in Tyrone Edgar and Simone Facey, who also contested the 200.
Edgar, recently third at the British Championships, finished third here as well with a season best time of 10.09 seconds behind a 9.93 winning effort from Ivory Williams and a 10.04 by Mark Jelks. Edgar previously ran a best of 10.11 this season and produced a career best of 10.06 last year.
Facey placed fourth in the women's 100-meter race with a clocking of 11.31 behind the winning mark of 10.97 from U.S. Champion Carmelita Jeter. Allyson Felix finished second in 11.08 while Stephanie Durst placed third in 11.14. Facey has recorded a season best of 11.23 twice this outdoor season.
In the 200 Facey won a B heat in a time of 22.90 over Aleen Bailey of Jamaica, who finished in 22.93. Facey's time was fourth best on the day when factoring in times from the A heat won by Debbie Ferguson in a world-leading mark of 22.32.
The men's B heat of the 200 was won by A&M volunteer assistant coach Kelly Willie in 20.50 over a 20.72 from Trinidad's Emmanuel Callender. Willie's mark also was fourth best when adding marks from the A heat, won in 20.00 by Panama's Alonso Edwards.
Upcoming on the Super Grand Prix circuit is the Aviva London Grand Prix, a two-day meeting held Friday and Saturday, July 24-25, at Crystal Palace. Currently scheduled to compete are Fabrice Lapierre, Tyrone Edgar and Wallace Spearmon.
