COLLEGE STATION - Julia Boland, the top-ranked amateur in Australia, will join the Texas A&M women's golf team this fall, Head Coach Trelle McCombs said Monday.
Boland received her bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney last spring and will attend graduate school. She will have one year of eligibility.
Boland won the 2009 Trans National Amateur last month in Tennessee and qualified for match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur last week in St. Louis. She posted rounds of 71-75=146 in stroke play and shot five-under on the back nine in the opening round.
Earlier this summer, Boland captured the Australian championship, was a quarterfinalist at the North & South Amateur in Pinehurst, North Carolina, and tied for seventh at the Canadian Amateur. The top-ranked female amateur in Australia, Boland also has captured several other tournament titles and was a member of the Australian team at the 2008 World Amateur Team Championship.
"Julia will bring a tremendous amount of experience to our team," McCombs said. "We are very excited to have such an accomplished player joining our team. With the addition of Julia to our roster alongside our veterans and incoming freshman, we will be able to do a lot of great things this year."
The Aggies open their fall season with the Texas A&M "Mo"morial Sept. 11-13 at Traditions Club in Bryan.
