COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M football team took to the field for the second time in the fall with a two-plus hour workout in shorts and helmets on Tuesday evening at the Coolidge Practice Fields.

"I thought it favored the offense a little bit this evening," A&M coach Mike Sherman said. "We caught the ball a little bit better, protected a little bit better and ran the ball a little bit better than we did yesterday. Part of it had to do with the basic coverages we were running on defense, but overall we did a better job today."

Sherman was asked about the ongoing tryouts for kick returner, and mentioned the play of true freshman Dustin Harris.

"He looked pretty natural back there," Sherman said. "He didn't always square up the ball, but he's very confident and fluid. We'll continue to work with him back there."

For the second straight day, sophomore tailback Cyrus Gray was commended for his effort on the field.

"Cyrus has taken his game to a different level so far, from what I've seen," Sherman said. "He's a lot more confident and sure of himself, and is more decisive when making his cuts."

The Aggies return to the field on Wednesday for a single workout, and will don the shoulder pads for the first time this fall starting at 8:25 a.m.

"It's going to hopefully get pretty physical," Sherman said. "That's an important part of this game. We need to take it to another level and have a pretty physical practice. It's just the shoulder pads and helmets, but I think it'll bring out the best in a lot of guys."
