COLLEGE STATION - Jim Anderson has been named assistant men's golf coach at Texas A&M, Head Coach J.T. Higgins said Friday.
Anderson replaces Jonathan Dismuke, who was hired as the head coach at the University of Houston earlier this month.
Anderson comes to A&M after two years as an assistant at New Mexico. He was a semifinalist for the Jan Strickland National Assistant Coach of the Year last season after the Lobos finished sixth at the NCAA West Regional.
"I'm thrilled to be at Texas A&M," Anderson said. "It is an exciting opportunity for me to be able to work with J.T. Higgins at one of the powerhouses in college golf."
A native of Sioux Falls, S.D., Anderson was a four-year letter-winner at New Mexico from 2001-04. He was recruited by Higgins and played for him for one season before Higgins became A&M's head coach in 2001.
Anderson played in 38 rounds in his career, posting a 75.45 average. His best outing was a tie for second at the 2001 Border Olympics, where he carded a 5-under total of 211..
Anderson graduated from UNM with a degree in Business-Human Resources in 2003 and completed a Master's degree in Sport Administration there in 2004. His brother, Mark, also competed at UNM for the men's golf program from 2005-06.
"Jim is a great human being who will have a tremendous impact on our players, not only on the golf course but in their lives," said Higgins, who led the Aggies to the national title last spring. "He's a tremendous recruiter and is one of the hardest workers in college golf. He'll be a great asset to our program and we're excited about him joining our staff."
