COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M football team wrapped up its second week of fall camp with a controlled scrimmage before several hundred fans on Saturday morning at Kyle Field.

The Aggies scrimmaged for the first half of practice, then worked on situational scenarios such as red zone, overtime, goal line and special teams (kickoff, field goals and punts).

"We got done a lot of work this morning that we needed to get done," head coach Mike Sherman said. "We moved the ball and we got the exact amount of reps we wanted to get. There were some good things and not so good things out there, and that's a typical scrimmage. There was some inconsistency at times offensively early, but I thought they picked it up after the first quarter of play and got better."

Highlighting the scoring in the first half were a pair of Jerrod Johnson near the sideline and took it the rest of the way for a 60-yard touchdown.

Sherman was asked after practice if he feels his team is where it should be with two weeks to go before kickoff.

"As a coach, you never accomplish everything you hope for," Sherman said. "But they're working hard, there's great team chemistry and they're doing what I ask them to do. Is it perfect? No. But I don't think it usually is. They're giving the effort and they're getting tougher, which is important."

The team will have the rest of Saturday off and all of Sunday before getting back to work with a pair of practices on Monday.

"They have their families up here, and hopefully they'll spend time with them and relax and get away from it," Sherman said. "It's been a little bit of a grind to this point, so it gives them a chance to get away from us and us from them as well. Tomorrow (the staff) will go to church, then come in here and get ready for New Mexico. We're also going to try to determine our personnel, where guys are going to be, who's going to be at certain spots and who we can count on."

It was announced after practice that Wednesday's mock-gameday scrimmage at Kyle Field will be closed.

Fans wishing to attend practice that do not have the proper University parking permit are reminded to park in either the University Center Parking Garage across from Rudder Tower or the West Campus Parking Garage facing the press box side of Kyle Field.
