COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M football team completed its second to last day of fall workouts on Thursday with a pair of practices in shorts and helmets inside the McFerrin Athletic Center.
"Last night (scrimmage) was kind of a grind for them, and I thought they came back and responded well," head coach Mike Sherman said. "I thought the defense came out really fast this morning, as well as this afternoon, and did some good things. The guys competed well, so I was encouraged by that."
The squad went through a "mock" gameday scrimmage on Kyle Field Wednesday evening, simulating a typical game day schedule with the season opener against New Mexico now just over a week away. Sherman said that he was pleased with what the team and staff took out of that experience.
"We were able to practice a bunch of situations," Sherman said. "We went through every single thing known to man in regards to football and were able to practice it all in a very timely fashion. I was encouraged by that. We exposed a lot of the young kids to the game-type mentality at (Kyle) Field, from coming out on the field, to The Aggie War Hymn, to the drum roll, to halftime procedures. We got a lot accomplished I thought yesterday."
The Aggies will wrap up fall camp with a single workout on Friday morning that has been moved up to 6:40 a.m. at the Coolidge Practice Fields.
Fans wishing to attend practice that do not have the proper University parking permit are reminded to park in either the University Center Parking Garage across from Rudder Tower or the West Campus Parking Garage facing the press box side of Kyle Field.
Texas A&M opens the 2009 season at home against New Mexico on Sept. 5.
