COLLEGE STATION, Texas - After starting the season with three matches in the comfortable confines of the Aggies Soccer Stadium, the 10th-ranked Texas A&M soccer team faces its first road test this weekend traveling to No. 14 California in Berkeley, Calif. on Friday and Saint Mary's in Moraga, Calif., on Sunday. The match against the Bears is set for 6:30 p.m., while Sunday's game begins at 11 a.m.
A&M (2-1-0) started the season with a three-game homestand and split matches last weekend dropping its first game to Purdue before rebounding with a commanding 3-0 shutout of UTSA. Sophomore Mary Grace Schmidt headed in A&M's first score of the 2009 season against No. 8 USC, while Kim Castleberry and Becca Herrera has already dished out two assists and Castleberry and Inge Harding knocked in the game-winner.
SCOUTING SAINT MARY'S
Saint Mary's dropped its last two games by a combined score of 10-2 and faces No. 15 Texas on Friday before seeing the Aggies on Sunday. The Gaels have scored a goal in each game with Jess Menzhuber leading the way with two scores. The team enters the weekend 1-2-0, averaging 11.7 shots per game with a .543 shot-on-goal percentage. Saint Mary's returns five starters and 12 letterwinners from a 2008 team that went 8-9-2. Kai Edwards is in his first year as head coach.
