BRYAN - After a one-year hiatus, women's college golf returns to the Brazos Valley with the 16th Texas A&M "Mo"Morial Invitational Friday through Sunday at Traditions Golf Club.
The tournament had been played annually in the spring since 1992 before skipping last season so it could be moved to the fall schedule.
The 11-team field will tee off at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Competing with A&M in the season-opening event will be Oklahoma, Tulane, Tulsa, Southern Mississippi, Sam Houston State, Texas State, Texas-San Antonio, Texas-Pan American, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Troy.
Representing A&M will be graduate student Ashley Freeman, junior Sarah Beth Davis and Kaitlin Hovda and Lizzy Hovda will compete as individuals.
"It's nice to finally get the "Mo" up and running again," A&M Coach Trelle McCombs said. "Having our first tournament of the season in our back yard is a great way to start the year. The players have been working very hard to prepare for this event and I think our lineup is solid top to bottom. We have three new faces in the lineup along with our two All-Americans, Freeman and Zwartynski. I look for this to be an exciting event."
Freeman, an All-American in 2008, is the reigning Big 12 individual champion and Zwartynski earned All-America honors as a true freshman in 2008. Boland is the top-ranked amateur in Australia, Davis was the top-ranked senior in Texas last year at St. Joseph High School in Victoria and Garner was among the top junior players in South Africa.
