BRYAN - Texas A&M was declared the team champion and newcomers Julia Boland and Sarah Beth Davis shared individual honors after Sunday's final round of the 16th Texas A&M Mo Morial Invitational was cancelled because of rain.

The scheduled 54-hole event was reduced to 18 holes after weather also forced the cancellation of Saturday's second round.

The Aggies carded an opening round score of 290, which set a tournament scoring record. The 11-team field started the first round on Friday and completed it early Saturday.

"It was unfortunate that we were only able to play 18 holes," A&M Coach Trelle McCombs said. "You really want the opportunity to play 54 holes to determine the best team, but we made the most of the opportunity we had. I was proud of how our team handled the conditions on Friday and Saturday morning."

Tulane finished second at 297, followed by Tulsa (299), UT-San Antonio (307), Oklahoma (309), Southern Mississippi (314), Sam Houston State (314), Texas State (322), A&M Corpus-Christi (325), Texas-Pan American (335) and Troy (338).

Boland, a graduate student from Australia, and Davis, a true freshman, fired two-under-par 70s in the first round. They are the first players in school history to win a tournament in their debut.

"This is an exciting start for us," McCombs said. "It could be the start of something really special. We want to build on this and keep improving."

The last A&M player to capture the individual crown at the Mo Morial was Ashley Knoll in 2006, when she led the Aggies to their last team title in the event.

The Aggies are back in action at the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational starting on Saturday in Albuquerque.
