MIDLAND, Texas - Texas A&M sophomore Marcus Lunt (San Antonio, Texas) fell in the quarterfinals of singles and doubles at the 10th Annual Midland Collegiate Invitational held Saturday afternoon at the Midland Racquet Club.
After upsetting fourth-seeded and preseason No. 85-ranked Attila Bucko of Baylor on Friday, Lewis continued his tournament match win streak with a 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 victory over Ben Chen of Texas in the round of 16. He later fell in the quarterfinals to Oscar Podlewski of Rice, 6-1, 7-5.
Lewis also combined with Lunt in doubles and topped Blake Boswell and George Chanturia of Oklahoma, 8-3, in the round of 16. Their tournament run ended with an 8-4 quarterfinal loss to Vasko Mladenov and Josh Zavala of Texas.
The Aggies will continue fall tournament play next weekend at the Baylor Invitational to be held on Sept. 25-27 in Waco, Texas.
Klegou Moves On To Semifinals at USTA Wild Card Tourney...Sophomore Jack Seider (Austin, Texas) and junior Kayvon Karimi (Dallas, Texas) both fell in the round of 16 in the singles draw. Seider lost to Karol Furmaga, 6-4, 6-1, while Karimi dropped a 7-6, 6-2 decision to Reyes Varela.
