COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M junior Whitney Hooper was tabbed the Big 12 Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, in addition to being selected as a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week and being named to the Soccer America Team of the Week.
The Houston, Texas, native was not the only Aggie soccer player picking up honors this week, as sophomore Becca Herrera was also listed as a CS360 Primetime Performer of the Week.
Hooper, who was named the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Player of the Week yesterday, netted three goals for six points last weekend to lead A&M to a pair of victories. In the Aggies' upset of previously unbeaten, No. 2 Portland, Hooper scored two goals, including the game winner. She produced another game-winning goal in A&M's 4-0 shutout of Sam Houston State on Sunday.
Over the weekend, Hooper led the team in almost every offensive category with six points, three goals, eight shots and five shots on goal. She currently leads the team with four goals, nine points and a .250 shot percentage on the season.
From Aurora, Colo., Herrera aided A&M's defense in holding the Pilots to 12 shots (six on goal) and a season-low single goal. She also added an assist on the Aggies' first goal that sophomore Jen Kmezich headed in off of Herrera's corner kick.
The defender also started at left back against Sam Houston State and helped lead Texas A&M to its third shutout after limiting the Bearkats to just two shots, none of which were on goal. Herrera posts a team-high four assists this season.
The Aggies go on the road to begin Big 12 play this weekend at Baylor and Oklahoma. Friday's match is set for 7 p.m. against the Bears, while Sunday's kickoff at OU begins at 1 p.m.
