COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M men's tennis team gears up for more fall competition this weekend at the Baylor Intercollegiate to be held on Sept. 25-27 at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
"It's our first match of the season and we have a lot of new guys getting their first opportunity to play," Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. "It will be interesting to see how all of our training and preseason and summer workouts play out. We are really excited to get back out on the courts. We have already had some success last weekend (at the Midland Invitational) and look to continue to build on it."
Senior captain Marcus Lunt (San Antonio, Texas), junior Patrick Dean (Dallas, Texas), junior Jack Seider (Austin, Texas), sophomore Colin Hoover (Victoria, Texas), sophomore John Lewis (Birmingham, Ala.) and freshman Alberto Bautista (McAllen, Texas) are all scheduled to compete in the three-day tournament.
A&M is one of 23 teams to be represented in the singles and doubles flights including host Baylor, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Abilene Christian, Arkansas, Denver, New Mexico State, Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Rice, TCU, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Tulsa, Louisiana-Lafayette, UNLV, Air Force, Texas, UT Arlington, UTSA, Wichita State and Wisconsin.
"There will be a lot of players at the tournament, who we will play against later in the season," Denton said. "It's an important time for us to get off on the right foot. Our guys have been working hard and are looking forward to a good weekend in Waco."
