COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M junior soccer player Whitney Hooper earned her sixth honor of the week, saving the most prestigious for last, as she claimed the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Player of the Week award on Wednesday.
Hooper netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, to power the Aggies to an upset over previously unbeaten and No. 2 Portland. Her two goals against the Pilots were the most scored by one player since UCLA's Danesha Adams netted two goals against UP on Nov. 30, 2007 in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Hooper tallied three goals on the weekend with her second game-winner coming in a shutout of Sam Houston State.
Earlier in the week, the forward from Houston, Texas, was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week, TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's Player of the Week and she was listed on the Soccer America Team of the Week and TopDrawerSoccer.com Women's College Soccer Team of the Week.
Hooper led A&M in almost every offensive category last weekend and now leads the team with four goals, nine points and a .250 shot percentage.
In addition to Hooper, sophomore Becca Herrera also received a weekly honor, being listed as a CS360 Primetime Performer of the Week.
Each week the NSCAA selects a national player of the week from a pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference.
The Aggies return to the pitch this weekend, opening Big 12 play on the road. Kickoff on Friday at Baylor begins at 7 p.m., while Sunday's match is slated for 1 p.m.
