COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Several members of the Texas A&M equestrian team had strong showings in a pair of prestigious shows held over the summer.
Sophomore Maggie Gratny participated in this summer's North American Junior and Young Riders Championships in Lexington, Ky. The NAJYRC, the premiere equestrian competition in North America for junior and young riders age 14-21, draws competitors from the United States, Canada and Mexico to vie for championship titles in the three Olympic equestrian disciplines of show jumping, dressage and eventing, plus the Western-style discipline of reining.
Gratny placed second individually in the welcome reining competition and third individually in the overall reining category. A native of Leavenworth, Kan., she was the high-point individual rider in the team competition and led her Team USA Southeast/South Central squad to a second-place finish.
Gratny, Lisabeth and the entire Aggie equestrian squad open the 2009-10 show season on Sunday, Oct. 11 when they host Fresno State at the Brazos County Expo Complex in Bryan. The show is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and admission is free.
