TULSA, Okla. - Texas A&M junior newcomer Jeff Dadamo (Tampa, Fla.) advanced to the third round in the qualifying singles draw at the 2009 D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American Championships held Tuesday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Dadamo, a transfer from the University of Florida, claimed a dominating straight-set victory over No. 72-ranked Simon Childs of Louisville, 6-1, 6-3. He awaits a matchup with 13th-seeded and No. 60-ranked Shuhei Uzawa of Ohio State tomorrow in the round of 32.
After beating a ranked opponent in the opening round on Monday, junior Alexey Grigorov (Moscow, Russia) lost a close first-set tiebreaker to ninth-seeded and No. 57-ranked Kallim Stewart of UCLA, 7-6 (6), 6-2, in the round of 64. He will compete in the doubles main draw on Thursday with junior All-American Austin Krajicek (Brandon, Fla.) as the preseason No. 19-ranked doubles tandem in the nation.
In the qualifying doubles draw, Dadamo and senior Marcus Lunt (San Antonio, Texas) moved on to the round of 32 with a 9-8 (5) win over Christopher Aumueller and Francois Van Impe of Nebraska. They later upset fifth-seeded and No. 38-ranked Emanuel Brighiu and Chris Price of TCU breaking serve only once in an 8-5 victory with Dadamo serving out the match. The Aggie duo will face Jonathan Dahan and Pedro Zerbini of Cal tomorrow in the round of 16.
