COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M equestrian team is ranked fifth in the first edition of the national coaches poll, released this week.

South Carolina earned the top spot, followed by Baylor, Auburn, Georgia and the Aggies. Oklahoma State and Kansas State were sixth and seventh, respectively, with TCU, Fresno State and South Dakota State rounding out the rankings.

In its second season, the poll was started by the collegiate coaches competing under the Varsity Equestrian Championship umbrella. The next ranking is scheduled to be released on October 20.

A&M will open the season on Sunday with a show against ninth-ranked Fresno State at the Brazos County Expo Center in Bryan set for 1 p.m. Admission is free.
