CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshman Sarah Beth Davis fired an even-par 72 on Friday to lead No. 19-ranked Texas A&M into a tie for 14th place after the opening round of the Tar Heel Invitational at the University of North Carolina's Finley Golf Course.

A&M carded a team score of 304 and trails leader Michigan State (285) by 19 strokes going into Saturday's second round. The final round is Sunday. Live scoring is available online at www.golfstat.com.

Davis is tied for 13th in the individual standings, just three shots behind leader Laura Kueny (69) of Michigan State. Davis had four birdies and four bogeys in her round.

A&M seniors Ashley Freeman (76) and Julia Boland (76) are tied for 42nd, junior Sarah Zwartynski (80) is tied for 80th and freshman Chloe Garner (81) is tied for 83rd.

The 10th-ranked Spartans lead No. 15 Alabama (295) by five strokes. Tennessee (291) is in third, followed by No. 21 Virginia (292), Wake Forest (293), No. 20 Florida State (294), No. 25 South Carolina (295), No. 4 Auburn (296), North Carolina (296), Vanderbilt (298), No. 13 Duke (299), North Carolina State (301), No. 6 Denver (302), A&M and No. 22 Louisville (304), Kent State (306), UNC Wilmington (310) and East Carolina (316).
