A&M HEAD COACH Mike Sherman
"Going into this game our guys had a great week of practice. They worked really hard. We fully expected to win. We didn't, and that's really all that matters. Oklahoma State made more plays than we did to win the football game. That's the bottom line."
"I told our guys after I thought we got better in the ballgame. There were some things we did well. As I looked in their eyes and talked to them, I really believe they did everything they possibly could to try and win this football game. They were fully focused during the game. They didn't make some plays we needed to make, but it wasn't a lack of focus or determination. I was proud of them for that. But we expect to win. There are no moral victories for playing a close game against a top team. We've got next week to get ready for and we have to go do it again next week."
On the difference defensively between the first and second halves... "There was that one drive, that 16-play drive that went 93 yards and went over seven minutes, I think they converted three third downs on that drive. We just struggled making plays there. it wasn't explosive plays necessarily, just the nickel and dime stuff. Last week we gave up big plays. I didn't feel that necessarily in this ballgame, except for when our safety fell down that one time. We just struggled getting off the field. Someone had to step up and make a play during that time, particularly on third down. We didn't do it, and they did.
"On the other side of the coin, on offense, we had the ball inside the red zone five times and I believe we scored a touchdown three times. We missed a field goal another time. The two times we didn't score inside the red zone is a factor too. Our kickoff coverage unit gave them good field position a few times. There are a number of ways you could pin this game."
A&M DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR Joe Kines
"First off, you've got to give a lot of credit to Coach Gundy and his staff for getting a win on the road. It hurts to not win the game, not because of circumstance, but because of how it worked out. I think that we came up a couple plays short, and we didn't get the job done. But what you have to take away from it is that we react how a team is supposed to react now. No one was happy when we lose. Everyone thought that we should have pulled it off. While we didn't play good at times, I think we did play hard."
A&M WR Uzoma Nwachukwu
"It's fun to have a big day, but I would want a win attached to that at the end of the day. It all starts with practice. Monday has to be a great day, to get better. We had great effort, we just weren't making the little plays that we can make every day.
"We definitely wanted to get this one. We want to win every game, especially this one being on Kyle field and against Oklahoma State. We played hard but things didn't fall into the right places. We just have to make the little plays we know we can make."
OKLAHOMA STATE COACH MIKE GUNDY
"This is a good win for our team. I'm really proud of our guys. I thought in all three phases, there were big plays. Each of the phases contributed to the victory. Playing on the road with some guys who don't have lot of experience, I thought they really handled themselves well. This is comparable to the Georgia win. (On late fourth-and-one call) We're going to put the game in our own hands. We like to play aggressive and tell our players to buy into what we are trying to accomplish. (on Dez Bryant) Hopefully, our program is far enough along that when we have an All-American out for a game or two that our younger players will step up. We are far enough along that we can run our offense and defense with some less experienced players."
OKLAHOMA STATE LINEBACKER PATRICK LAVINE
"We already had the feeling of losing a game and we don't want to have that feeling again. Getting a win here is big. Playing without Dez is huge. I think it's going to be better for us in the long run. He might come back or he might not. We've got other guys on the team who can step up. They have been doing in practice and not it's time to do it in a game. They've got a lot of great athletes on their team. They're going to make plays, but you have to limit the plays they make. When they do make mistakes, you've got to capitalize on them."
OKLAHOMA STATE QUARTERBACK ZAC ROBINSON
(on death of his grandfather Tuesday) "It was a heck of a week. I got to see my grandfather Monday morning, It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I prayed about it all week and I know he's in a better place now. I felt his spirit with us the whole second half. In the first half, I did not feel comfortable and was pretty ineffective. Fortunately, the second half came around and we made some big plays, some big third downs. The Georgia win was big, but to get 1-0 in conference is the biggest thing right now."
