COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M freshman Nora Skelton was selected as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week Tuesday, the conference announced.
The forward from Austin, Texas, netted two game-impacting goals in each of the Aggie soccer team's wins last weekend. Her first career game-winner lifted A&M to a 1-0 shutout of Oklahoma State. Skelton's second goal was the equalizer that took the Aggies to a 2-1 overtime victory against Loyola University Chicago.
In just four shots, Skelton scored two goals and put three strikes on frame for a .500 shot percentage and a .750 shot on goal percentage. She started both matches and was a main force in increasing A&M's undefeated streak to four games.
Skelton leads all freshmen on the team with three goals, two assists and eight points.
This marks the first Big 12 honor for Skelton and the fifth conference player of the week honor by the Aggies this season. Junior Mary Grace Schmidt (8/25) were the other Big 12 weekly honorees this year.
No. 14 Texas A&M is in third place in the conference and travels to Iowa State on Friday and Nebraska on Sunday to play its final Big 12 road games of the season.
