COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Four current and former Texas A&M men's tennis players are competing in the singles main draw of the 2009 10sPortal.com Classic being held this week in Austin, Texas.
Three of the four reached the second round including junior Conor Pollock (San Antonio, Texas), both of whom advanced out of the qualifier. Dadamo and junior All-American Austin Krajicek (Brandon, Fla.) are competing on the USTA Futures Pro Circuit as amateurs.
Fresh off a successful 4-1 tournament run at last week's D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., Dadamo kept to his winning ways by moving past the opening round with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over former Texas Tech standout Sinisa Markovic of Bosnia, who is ranked No. 992 in the world. He will face top-seeded and No. 305-ranked Victor Estrella of the Dominican Republic tomorrow for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Pollock topped No. 941-ranked Antonio Ruiz-Rosales of Mexico, 6-2, 6-4, in the first round as did former Aggie standout Brett Joelson (Beaverton, Ore.) over No. 750-ranked Juan-Manuel Elizondo in the second-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6 (7). Joelson and Krajicek, ranked No. 865 in the world, both earned automatic entries into the main draw. Krajicek fell in three sets to Dimitar Kutrovsky of Texas, 1-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Cook and Joelson Capture Doubles Titles On ATP Tour...Former three-time All-American Lester Cook (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) paired with fellow American David Martin to capture an ATP Challenger Tour doubles title at the Natomas Men's Professional Tennis Tournament held in Sacramento, Calif. Cook and Martin defeated top-seeded Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico and American Travis Rettenmaier in the finals, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5). Additionally, Brett Joelson and teammate Ashwin Kumar were the third-seeded doubles tandem at the Mexico F11 Futures tournament recently held in Monterrey, Mexico. Joelson and Kumar, ranked No. 1215 in the world, downed the top two seeded teams at the tourney including a dominating 6-4, 6-2 victory in the finals over No. 685-ranked Bruno Echagaray and Daniel Garza of Mexico.
