The Texas A&M women's tennis team opens play at the ITA Texas Regional on Friday at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.

A&M senior Christina Amo (Fort Worth) and sophomore Ashley Turpin (New Braunfels) are first to take the court for the Aggies, as they will compete in the singles qualifying draw. Both players received first-round byes and will begin play in the Round of 32 at either 12:30 or 2:15 p.m. on Friday against opponents to be determined.

Other A&M players who are participating in the tournament begin play on Saturday in the main draw in both singles and doubles. The main draws for both doubles and singles will be released on Friday. The tournament runs through Tuesday.

The singles finalists and the doubles champion earn an automatic berth into the prestigious ITA National Indoor Championships, Nov. 5-8 in New Haven, Conn.

"This is the most important regional tournament in the fall," A&M coach Bobby Kleinecke said. "We have players who have a chance to do well, and anything is possible at the regionals with players looking to qualify for national indoors. Every round is important, so we have to be ready to play."

Senior Elzé Potgieter (Bloemfontein, South Africa) advanced to the finals at the 2006 ITA Southwest Regional as a freshman and earned an automatic berth to the National Indoors Championships. In an all-Aggie final, A&M's Anna Lubinsky defeated Potgieter to win the 2006 ITA Southwest Regional title.
