Several members of the Texas A&M women's tennis team begin competition in the ITA Texas Regional singles and doubles main draws on Saturday at Waco Regional Tennis Center.
Ashley Turpin face Nicole Briceno and Hatamoya Shahazoda of SMU at 12 p.m.
The A&M doubles teams of Morgan Frank and Lauren Santacroce and No. 6 seed Elzé Potgieter and Nazari Urbina both have first-round byes and will begin second-round play at 2 p.m. against opponents to be determined.
In singles, Potgieter is the No. 7 seed and will open against Madura Ranganathan of North Texas at 3 p.m. Santacroce also is slated to play at 3 p.m., taking on Maria Martinez of UTA.
Cuthbertson faces No. 3 seed Aeriel Ellis of Texas at 3:30 p.m. , and Urbina takes on Amanda Craddock of Texas at 4 p.m. Olivier also plays at 4 p.m. against a to-be-determined lucky loser.
At 4:30 p.m., Davidson meets Mariaryeni Gutierrez of Lamar, and Frank concludes the day with a 5 p.m. match against Texas' Sarah Lancaster.
Earlier today, Turpin defeated Chanelle McGregor of SMU, 6-0, 6-2 in the first round of the qualifying draw but fell to Carlene Leyden of Texas, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the second round.
Christina Amo, who had a first-round bye in the qualifying draw, defeated Melissa Hadad of Texas State, 7-6 (3), 6-4 and will play an opponent to be determined in the qualifying round of 16 on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
Play continues through Sunday at the Waco Regional Tennis Center and then moves to the Baylor Tennis Center for Monday and Tuesday matches.
The singles finalists and the doubles champion earn an automatic berth into the prestigious ITA National Indoor Championships, Nov. 5-8 in New Haven, Conn.
