COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 14 Texas A&M soccer team carries a five-match unbeaten streak to Nebraska Sunday for its final road game of the regular season. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
The Aggies (10-4-1, 4-1-1 Big 12) downed Iowa State, 1-0, Friday after junior Rachel Shipley buried a penalty kick in the 55th minute. Sophomore Katie Hamilton was fouled hard in the box to warrant the PK, while junior goalkeeper Kelly Dyer earned a shutout between the posts.
A&M sits in third place in the Big 12 behind Colorado and Missouri, respectively.
Nebraska (8-3-4, 2-2-2 Big 12) had a five-game unbeaten streak snapped Friday after a 2-1 loss at Texas. The Longhorns scored the game-winner in the 84th minute and pushed the Huskers down to seventh place in the conference standings.
Texas A&M is led by junior Whitney Hooper with seven goals, including four game-winners, and 16 points. Shipley has a team-best seven assists and is second on the team with 15 points. Sophomore Bri Young follows with 11 points (4G, 3A), while sophomore Katie Hamilton has notched five goals.
Morgan Marlborough is Nebraska's single-season record holder for goals with 19 and is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the same category. Marlborough has 42 points this season, but is not the only scoring threat as Molly Thomas (6G, 5A) adds 17 points followed by two Huskers with four goals each. Nebraska leads the Big 12 in shots (338), goals (51), points (147) and assists (45).
The Huskers lead the all-time series 13-10, but Texas A&M has gotten the best of Nebraska in recent years, winning the last six matches between the two teams. The Aggies have also taken the last three straight in Lincoln, Neb., including a 4-1 victory in 2007. Last season, Hooper scored two second-half goals on just two shots to give A&M a 2-0 shutout. West and Gnatzig provided assists.
