SAN ANTONIO - The No. 18-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team will compete against 11 other Division I Texas teams at the Lone Star Championship beginning on Sunday at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
The field will play 36 holes Sunday and a final 18 on Monday. Play begins at 8 a.m. each day. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Joining the Aggies will be No. 4 Texas, Baylor, Houston, Lamar, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, Texas State, Texas-Arlington, Texas-El Paso and host Texas-San Antonio.
Representing A&M will be freshman Andrea Pavan, and juniors John Hurley and Nacho Elvira.
"This tournament is really exciting for us on several fronts," A&M Coach J.T.Higgins said. "First, it's another chance to play on a great Texas course, Briggs Ranch, which is one of the very best clubs in the state. It should provide a terrific test of golf. Second, only Texas teams are invited to this event and that gives us an opportunity to see where we stand against the best the state has to offer. And finally, we are eager to get out there and show that we are better than we have played so far this season. We have played good, solid golf but not to our standards. The boys have been working hard in preparation for this tournament and we are looking forward to seeing some of that hard work pay off."
A&M has finished fifth in each of its two fall tournaments, the Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque and the PING/Golfweek Preview in Seattle. Peck leads the Aggies with a 73.17 stroke average and tied for fifth in Seattle.
