Johnson Adds Single Season Record to Résumé
Junior quarterback Jerrod Johnson threw his first interception of the season tonight against Kansas State, but not before breaking the Big 12's single season record for consecutive pass attempts without a pickoff. Johnson threw 225 straight passes without a pickoff to open 2009 before KSU's Tysyn Hartman stepped in front of his pass attempt in the second quarter. He broke the old single season mark of 213 set by Kansas' Todd Reesing in 2007. He increased his overall Big 12 record streak to 242 attempts dating back to last year's Baylor game.
Nwachukwu Sets Freshman Mark, Matches Overall
Wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu became the first freshman to log three 100-yard receiving games in a single season, and matched A&M's overall record for century receiving games in a season with his five-catch, 136-yard performance against Kansas State. Nwachukwu breaks the old freshman mark of two held by Ryan Tannehill (2008) and Terrence Murphy (2001). He matched the overall school record of three originally set by Robert Ferguson (2000) and matched by Jamaar Taylor (2002).
He also tallied his fifth and sixth receiving touchdowns of the season, which ranks No. 2 in school history among freshman and is tied for No. 6 overall in the A&M record book.
• Coming into the game, the Aggies were among the nation's best at protecting the football, but they surpassed their previous season total with five turnovers against Kansas State (two fumbles, three interceptions). The three interceptions were A&M's first of the season.
• QB Jerrod Johnson set an A&M record with his fourth 300-yard passing game of 2009 with 314 passing yards against Kansas State. He also extended his school record for career 300-yard games to six after tonight's game.
• With respect to Howard Morrow has been the Aggies' most productive receiver over the last four games. Morrow has grabbed 21 catches for 244 yards in that span and with at least four receptions in every game. During that same span, Nwachukwu has 15 catches for 291 yards.
• Tight end Jamie McCoy grabbed two catches for 27 yards against KSU, and now has at least one catch in every game since shifting positions to tight end in 2008, a span of 18 games.
Game Captains / 12th Man
• Game captains were Jamie McCoy (offense), Chevar Bryson (special teams).
• Junior Derek Dumas was the Aggies' 12th Man against Kansas State.
