COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M softball team opens its fall season this weekend, traveling to the SKGSL College Classic in Spring, Texas, for four games. On Saturday the Aggies face Stephen F. Austin and Texas State at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., while Sunday A&M takes on Southern Mississippi at 9 a.m. followed by UTSA at 11 a.m.
The Aggies have been conducting team workouts for two weeks. After this weekend's contests, the team plays its four remaining games at the Aggie Softball Complex on Oct. 6, Oct. 13 and Oct. 14. All games are free to the public.
A&M returns 11 letterwinners from a 2009 squad that appeared in its eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament and finished the season with a 33-22 record.
Seven newcomers step on the diamond this weekend including Mel Dumezich (Whiting, Ind.), Victoria Lehrnamm (Brenham, Texas), Lauren Schwirtlich (Corpus Christi, Texas), Sydney Shannon (Marlow, Okla.), Missy Siegel (Portland, Texas), and Lindsey Sisk (Murreta, Calif.).
The first pitch of the 2010 regular season is thrown on Feb. 12 at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
