White Wins Series Wednesday

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The White team defeated Maroon, 8-1, to sweep the best-of-three Maroon and White Series Wednesday at the Aggie Softball Complex.

White was victorious Tuesday, downing Maroon, 4-3, and came back strong today tallying 10 hits for its second straight win. Since the series was won in two games, there will be no competition Thursday on the diamond.

Despite the loss yesterday, Maroon jumped on the scoreboard first in the second inning as freshman Mel Dumezich led off with a double to center. She was sacrificed to third by sophomore Eden Morris and touched home plate after a sacrifice fly from freshman Victoria Lehrmann.

In the bottom half of the second, White answered with four runs highlighted by an RBI double from freshman Lauren Schwirtlich and a two-run double by junior Rhi Kliesing. Senior Macie Morrow collected the other RBI.

White added to its lead after Kliesing led off the fourth frame with a double to right center. Junior Kara Rau sacrificed her to third before junior Missy Siegel hit a sacrifice fly to left to put her team up 5-1.

The White team added three runs in the sixth off of an RBI double from junior Bailey Schroeder.

Sisk was the winning pitcher for White. She allowed one run, six hits and one walk, while striking out five. Dumezich and sophomore Rebecca Arbino both threw for Maroon. In two innings, Dumezich gave up four runs on five hits, walked one and recorded one K. In five innings of work, Arbino allowed four runs on five hits, walked one and fanned three.

Schroeder and Kliesing led all hitters going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Schroeder homered and scored two runs, while Kliesing doubled twice. Sisk also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a fun scored. Junior Andrea Tovar posted the best average going 2-for-3 with a run and a walk. Schwirtlich added two hits, including a double, and an RBI.

For Maroon, both Spittler and Dumezich went 2-for-4. Also adding a hit were sophomores Eden Morris.

The Aggies begin their fall season on Feb. 12 at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. A&M's first home game is scheduled for Feb. 19.
