
No. 9 Aggies Close Fall with Victory at Baylor Invitational

DALLAS - No. 9-ranked Texas A&M closed with an 11-under-par 273 Tuesday to successfully defend its title at the Baylor Invitational at Royal Oaks Country Club.
Three Aggies posted final-round scores in the 60s, led by sophomore Geoff Shaw's six-under 65. The victory was A&M's second straight to end the fall season. The Aggies also won the Lone Star Invitational last week in San Antonio.
"I was really proud of the guys today for again finishing strong," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "They really came through today. The conditions were perfect and we took advantage and played outstanding golf. We had a great fall season and have a lot we can build on going into the spring."
A&M freshman Cameron Peck tied for second individually with a four-under total of 71-70-68=209, finishing two strokes behind individual champion James Kwon (76-64-67=207) of SMU.
A&M senior Andrea Pavan (70-72-69=211) tied for fifth, Shaw (73-78-65=216) tied for 14th, junior Nacho Elvira (74-72-71=2176) tied for 18th and junior John Hurley (72-75-77=224) tied for 42nd.
The defending national champion Aggies' team score of four-under 286-289-273=848 edged runner-up SMU (851) by three strokes. Iowa (865) finished third, followed by New Mexico (866), Baylor (866), Arkansas (872), Lamar (874), No. 4 Texas (875), Tulsa (883), Oklahoma (883), BYU (887) and Texas-San Antonio (903).
A&M opens its spring season at the Arizona Invitational Feb. 1-2 in Tucson.
