COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M freshman Meagan May launched two home runs and tallied five RBIs to lead the Aggie softball team to a pair of wins against Blinn on Tuesday evening at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Nearly 200 fans showed up to witness May's three-run homer in the first inning and solo shot in the third that helped push Texas A&M to a 9-0 victory in the first game. The Aggies took game two by a score of 2-1. Head coach Jo Evans said she liked what she saw in the doubleheader.
"It was nice to get back out here after Saturday and work out some kinks," she said. "We left some runners on tonight, but our offensive production was pretty good and the defense looked solid. It's nice to get a lot of our youngsters out there and really see what they can do."
In game two, freshman Mel Dumezich showed she could come through in the clutch, notching the game-winning, RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. She drove home senior Macie Morrow, who reached on one of her three singles for the game.
Junior Kara Rau plated junior Kelsey Spittler on a sacrifice fly in the fourth to open the scoring. Blinn answered in the sixth when its lead-off batter was hit by a pitch, stole second and later scored on a two-out, RBI single. The Aggies left 11 on base in the contest.
In the first game, May's bomb put A&M up 3-0 at the end of the first. Her RBI single in the third then scored sophomore Rhi Kliesing who reached on a walk. Pinch runner Alex Reynolds laced a double to left center that increased the Aggies' lead to 5-0.
In the fifth frame, Kliesing put the game out of reach with a two-run triple. She scored on the play after a Blinn throwing error. May proceeded to hit her second home run for the seventh hit of the game and a 9-0 Aggie lead.
Dumezich picked up the win in the circle for game one giving up just two hits and striking out five, while walking four. Sophomore Rebecca Arbino fanned eight, allowed five hits and walked one for the win in the second contest.
A&M tallied 16 hits in the twin bill. May went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and three runs. Kliesing was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and three runs. Junior Lauren Schwirtlich, Tovar and Spittler.
