Offense Surpasses 6,000-yard Barrier
- Texas A&M's 2009 offense became the first unit in school history to surpass the 6,000-yard plateau in total yards (old record was 5,653 by the 1990 Aggies. The Aggies gained 6,055 yards in 13 games for an average of 465.8 per game, which is the second-highest per game average in school history (471.1 in 1990).
- The Aggies also set a school record for season passing yards with 3,661 or 281.6 per game in 2009. The old records were 3,216 and 268.0 per game from 2002.
Johnson Sets A&M Bowl Records
- Junior quarterback Jerrod Johnson set a variety of A&M bowl records including completions, attempts, passing yards, passing touchdowns and total offense. Johnson, who set virtually every season passing records this season, threw for 362 yards and two touchdowns on 29-of-58 passing against the Bulldogs. Johnson broke records of 292 passing yards by Kevin Murray in the 1986 Cotton Bowl, 23 completions by Reggie McNeal in the 2005 Cotton Bowl and 39 attempts by Branndon Stewart in 1999 Sugar Bowl. He broke Bucky Richardson's record for total offense with 413 yards (old record was 322 vs. in the 1990 Holiday Bowl. His two passing touchdowns matched a record set by three Aggie passers, most recently Lance Pavlas in the 1990 Holiday Bowl.
- In the I-Bowl record book, Johnson broke Oklahoma's Josh Heupel's record for pass attempt with 58 (old mark was 53 in 1999). Johnson's total yardage of 413 ranked second to Heupel's 432 in 1999.
- It was Johnson's sixth 300-yard passing game of 2009, which is a single season school record. It was also his eighth career 300-yard game, which is also a record. Johnson improved his career school records for passing touchdowns to 53 and touchdown responsibility to 67. Johnson already owned school records for season completions, attempts, yards, touchdowns, total offense, touchdown responsibility and total plays.
Fuller Matches A&M Bowl Record for Catches
- Sophomore Mike Goodson originally set the record with seven catches against Penn State in the 2007 Alamo Bowl. Fuller's 102 yards rank No. 4 in the record book.
- The 81-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Georgia's Brandon Boykin marked the first-ever kickoff return for a TD allowed by Texas A&M in a bowl game. It was the third kickoff return for a touchdown against the Aggies in 2009.
- he Aggies fell to 0-7 in games when they don't rush for 200 yards, which coincidentally came in A&M's seven games that appeared on television.
- The Aggies ran a whopping 92 offensive plays against the Bulldogs, which was just one off their season high of 93 against Arkansas.
- A&M gained 471 yards, which marked the ninth time this season that the Aggies have surpassed the 450-yard mark in total yards.

- Game captains for the Independence Bowl were quarterback Jerrod Johnson (offense), 12th Man Ryan O'Bryant, defensive back Ryan O'Bryant (Houston, Texas / Nimitz HS). It was O'Bryant's eight 12th Man start of his career.
