AUSTIN - Julian Reid broke a 14-year-old Texas A&M school record in the triple jump with his winning mark of 54-10.25 (16.72) on Saturday at the Texas Invitational.
Reid, who moved to second on the Aggie all-time list last season, bettered the distance of 54-6.75 (16.63) set by Kendrick Smith in 1995. Reid led a 1-2-3 effort by A&M in the event as Terry Dike was the third best collegian with his mark of 49-0.75 (14.95).
Four of Reid's six marks at Myers Stadium would have claimed the win. His second best effort was a windy 54-7.25 (16.64). With a legal wind reading of 1.5 mps on his winning mark Reid becomes the current collegiate outdoor leader in the event heading into the Big 12 Championships (May 15-17). Oklahoma's Will Claye sports a wind-aided best of 55-0.75 (16.78) with a legal mark of 54-9.5 (16.70). Reid's mark is also currently 11th on the 2009 world list.
Earlier in the men's long jump Keenan Hall led another 1-2-3 sweep by the Aggies as his windy effort of 24-8.25 (7.52) was his best of the season. Zuheir Sharif placed third with a 24-1 (7.34).
The women also had success in the jumping events on a muggy afternoon. Ashika Charan won the long jump while Yasmine Regis was the top collegian in the triple jump.
Charan's mark of 20-3.75 (6.19) placed her ahead of teammate Angela Thomas placed as the third collegian with a 42-3.5 (12.89).
Highlights on the track included a 43.82 victory for the women's 4 x 100 unit of Elizabeth Adeoti, Porscha Lucas, Allison George and Dominique Duncan over Houston's 44.30.
Vashti Thomas (13.27w) and Gabby Mayo (13.40w) challenged Houston's Seun Adigun, who won the 100 hurdles in 13.03w.
Allison George finished as the top collegian in the women's 100 as she equaled her career best with an 11.34. MacLean O'Donnell claimed the men's 3000 meters in 8:35.73.
The Aggies capped the meet with a pair of 4 x 400 relay victories. The women posted a 3:43.84 while the men ran 3:09.42. Running for the women's squad were Duncan, Sandy Wooten, Kyle Dykhuizen, Morquise Cleveland.
In the women's pole vault three Aggies secured regional qualifying marks with a clearance of 12-7.5 (3.85). Jennifer Davidson placed fourth (second collegian) and Aly Daily finished fifth (third collegian).
High jumpers Seth Lowery each cleared 6-8.75 in placing fourth and fifth.
Cardinal Invitational Christina Munoz and Kevin McNab each placed 10th in their respective races during the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Stanford.
Munoz ran the third fastest time on A&M's all-time list in the 10,000 with a 34:29.38 to gain a NCAA provisional mark in that event. Her mark is the fourth best performance on the Aggie list, trailing a pair of 33:03's by Melissa Gulli and a 34:17.58 by Stacy Ware. McNab posted a season best of 8:56.63 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
