Texas A&M will be represented by seven swimmers and divers at the 13th FINA World Championships July 17-25 at the Foro Italico in Rome, Italy.
The seven Aggies - Triin Aljand (Estonia), Shawn Clarke (Barbados), Alejandro Jacobo (Mexico), Eric Sehn (Canada) and Julia Wilkinson (Canada) - will also be representing five different home countries. Aljand, Clarke, Jacobo and Sehn have completed their eligibility at A&M, while Medrano, Nel and Wilkinson will be back in action for the Aggies in 2009-10.
"The FINA World Championships are the second biggest swimming and diving meet in world behind the Olympic Games, and every country sends their best athletes, so it's a great honor to compete in this meet," Aggie head men's swim coach Jay Holmes said. "They've been working very hard in preparation for the World Championships and I'm sure they will do a great job of representing Texas A&M and their home countries. I'm looking forward to seeing them compete."
Nel and Sehn will represent the Aggies in the men's diving competition, Aljand, Medrano and Wilkinson will compete in women's swimming, and Clarke and Jacobo will see action in the men's swimming competition.
