
A&M's Wilkinson Helps Canada to 8th Place in 800 Free Relay

Texas A&M All-America swimmer Julia Wilkinson (Stratford, Ontario, Canada) helped her home country of Canada to an eighth-place finish in the women's 800-meter freestyle relay at the FINA World Championships in Rome.
Wilkinson, who missed the 2008-09 collegiate season with a shoulder injury, turned in a 1:57.39 leg for her 200 meters, and the Canadians hit the wall in a time of 7:49.14. In the prelims, Wilkinson's 1:57.77 leg helped Canada qualify fourth in a time of 7:50.29.
In other action, 2008 Big 12 200 breaststroke champion Alejandro Jacobo (Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico) posted a time of 2:13.37 in the prelims of the men's 200-meter breast, but did not advance.
Former A&M All-American Triin Aljand (Tallinn, Estonia) swam two rounds in the women's 50m butterfly. In the prelims, Aljand turned in a 26.27 to move to the semis, and then posted a 26.16 to just miss a spot in the final. Sophomore-to-be Rita Medrano (Aguacalientes, Mexico) posted a 27.97 in the 50 fly prelims, and also posted a time of 2:10.29 in the 200 fly prelims.
