BREMERTON, Wash. - Freshman Cameron Peck closed with an even-par 72 on Monday to lead No. 12-ranked Texas A&M to a fifth-place finish at the Ping-Golfweek Preview at Gold Mountain Golf Club's Olympic Course.
Peck's effort helped A&M post a final-round 293, the second-best score of the day behind top-ranked Oklahoma State's 285. The Cowboys cruised to a 22-stroke victory with a 54-hole score of 862. No. 2 Washington was second at 884. A&M finished ahead of six nationally-ranked teams. Peck placed fifth in only his second collegiate start with rounds of 76-71-72=219 to finish eight strokes behind individual winner Peter Uihlein (69-71-71=211) of Oklahoma State. A&M sophomore tied for 41st (82-74-73=229) and junior John Hurley tied for (79-80-76=235). "We were everything today that we weren't yesterday," A&M Coach said. "We were competitive, we were intense and we played with a lot of fire. I was really proud of the effort and how hard we fought in incredibly tough conditions. It was cold and very windy today and we played with a lot of heart. That's the way this program was built and that's the way we need to play every time we tee it up. "It was a great tournament for Cameron and is the start of a great college career for him," Higgins said. "Geoff has really turned into a bulldog for us and I couldn't be happier for him." No. 5 Arizona State finished third (889), followed by No. 16 North Carolina State (893), A&M (302-300-293=895), New Mexico (896), No. 9 Southern California (897), No, 19 TCU (903), No. 13 UNLV (903), No. 18 LSU (908), Kent State (909), No. 4 Alabama (911), Colorado State (913), No. 21 Chattanooga (917) and Indiana (933). The Aggies are back in action at the Lone Star Championship Oct. 18-19 in San Antonio.
