  8. The Aggies' three losses this season have all been to teams ranked in the top 25 in this week's polls (No. 8/8 West Virginia, No. 24/22 Washington and No. 15/14 New Mexico).  A&M's schedule through December was ranked as the seventh toughest nationally -- and the toughest in the Big 12 -- by CBS Sports.

  2. UND is a memberof the Great West Conference, which is going into its first season of basketball. The league also includes Houston Baptist and Texas-Pan American.
  3. The Fighting Sioux were picked to finish fourth in the Great West in a preseason poll of league coaches. Seniors Travis Bledsoe (6-0-) and Travis Mertens (6-5) were second-team all-conference picks.
  4. Mertens leads the team in scoring (10.7) and rebounding (7.1). Bledsoe is adding 8.2 points per game.

Last Year's Game
COLLEGE STATION (AP) - Chinemelu Elonu scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds as Texas A&M defeated North Dakota 76-62 Monday night. Josh Carter scored a game-high 18 points for the Aggies (14-1). Donald Sloan and B.J. Holmes had 14 each. A&M, which led throughout, made 23 of 28 free throws. North Dakota (8-6) pulled within four at 37-33 three minutes into the second half on Derek Benter's 3-pointer. But Holmes responded with two 3-pointers over the next two minutes to shove the Aggies' lead back to double digits at 43-33. Following Benter's 3-pointer, the Aggies outscored the Fighting Sioux 19-5 over the next 10 minutes to put away their 10th consecutive victory. Travis Bledsoe led North Dakota with 13 points. The Aggies led by 14 with 3:46 remaining in the first half, but North Dakota outscored A&M 10-2 down the stretch to only trail 33-27 at halftime.

Northwestern State Recap
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Mark Turgeon's said. "We were sharing the ball well. We didn't make some shots and free throws, but they will come."

Roland's Value

  1. Senior guard Derrick Roland will miss the rest of the season after breaking his right leg on Dec. 22 against Washington. Roland was considered by many to be the top perimeter defender in the Big 12. He was the Aggies' No. 2 scorer, a team captain and perhaps the team's top leader.
To illustrate Roland's importance to the team, because of foul trouble or injury he played fewer than 25 minutes in all three losses. His fewest minutes played came in the close losses to New Mexico (14 minutes, early foul trouble) and Washington (16 minutes, leg injury). He also got in foul trouble against West Virginia (24 minutes) and was on the bench during a key second-half run by the Mountaineers.
