Series Notes
- Nebraska leads the series, 11-6, but A&M has won three of the last four games. The series is record is 5-5 over the last 10 games.
- The Cornhuskers have a 4-3 edge in games played in College Station with a 3-2 record at Reed Arena.
- Nebraska beat the Aggies (66-55) the last time they played at Reed Arena two years ago.
- Josh Carter's three-pointer at the buzzer handed A&M a 57-55 victory last year in Lincoln, which helped keep the Aggies' NCAA Tournament hopes alive. A&M trailed by as many as 18 points in the second half before mounting a dramatic comeback in what is believed to be the biggest deficit overcome by A&M in school history. Â
Game Notes
- A&M is 8-0 at home this season while Nebraska is 1-2 in true road games.
- The Aggies have won two straight games and are coming off an 82-41 win at home Tuesday against North Dakota. All 15 active players received playing time for the second straight game. Nebraska has won three straight games and is coming off a 77-59 win against Southwestern Louisiana at home Tuesday.Â
Aggies at Home
- A&M has won 11 straight home games since a 65-60 loss to Kansas State last season. Since the start of the 2008-09 season, the Aggies are 24-2 at Reed Arena. A&M is 40-6 at home under Mark Turgeon.
- The Aggies have won 51 straight non-conference home games, including wins against Arizona, Alabama and LSU. The last loss was to St. Joseph's (58-51) in the 2005 NIT quarterfinals. A&M has won 64 straight regular-season non-conference home games since 2003. A&M is 83-9 all-time in non-conference games at Reed (.902).
- Turgeon is 39-5 in regular-season non-conference games at A&M, including a 31-0 record at home. He has posted wins against Minnesota, Clemson, Arizona, Washington, Ohio State, Alabama and LSU.
Rugged Schedule
- A&M is 2-2 against ranked teams this season, only the second time in school history the Aggies have beaten two nationally-ranked opponents in non-conference play. The 1978-79 team posted four non-conference wins against ranked opponents.
- A&M has played four nationally-ranked opponents (which doesn't even include New Mexico, which was unranked at the time). That's twice as many ranked non-conference opponents as any other Big 12 team. Only four teams in the country have played more than four ranked opponents (Presbyterian-6), Marquette-5, Ohio State-5 and Long Beach State-5).
- The Aggies' three losses this season have all been to teams ranked in the top 25 in this week's polls (No. 8/8 West Virginia, No. 24/22 Washington and No. 15/14 New Mexico). A&M's schedule through the end of December was ranked as the seventh toughest nationally - and the toughest in the Big 12 - by CBS Sports.
About Nebraska
- The Cornhuskers return only one starter from last year's team that finished 18-13 overall and finished eighth in the Big 12 with an 8-8 mark. Nebraska lost to New Mexico (83-71) in the first round of the NIT.
- The Cornhuskers are in their fourth season under Coach Doc Sadler. Sadler is 1-2 against the Aggies.
- Nebraska is led by senior guard Ryan Anderson, who is the only Cornhusker averaging in double figures (11.5). A whopping 10 other players averaging between 4.5 and 8.5 points per game.
- Nebraska's losses have been on the road to Saint Louis (59-55) and Creighton (67-61) and to BYU (88-66) in the championship game of the Las Vegas Classic. The Cornhuskers posted a road win at USC (51-48) in November.
Last Year's Game
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP/Feb. 14, 2009)--Josh Carter's buzzer-beating 3-pointer gave Texas A&M a 57-55 come-from-behind win over Nebraska. The Aggies (20-8, 6-7 Big 12) fell behind by 18 early in the second half. But Nebraska (16-10, 6-7) scored just seven points in the final 14 minutes and made just two field goals in the last 16:52. The Aggies scored 10 of the game's final 11 points. A Nebraska foul gave the Texas A&M the ball out of bounds with 2.6 seconds left. Carter received the inbounds pass and swished a 25-footer from the top of the key as time ran out. Carter led Texas A&M with 11 points and Davis had 10 for the Aggies. Ade Dagunduro led Nebraska with 16 points. Nebraska's Cookie Miller missed a pair of free throws with 19.5 seconds left and the teams each turned the ball over twice before Texas A&M got a final possession. "You know what's crazy. we haven't worked on that play for a month," Texas A&M coach Mark Turgeon's said. "Then we worked on it today so everybody knew what they were doing. Josh made a big time shot. Nebraska was great for 28 minutes. The last 12 minutes, we turned up the heat. It worked for us today. I thought we'd never get over the hump, but we finally made some shots."
Roland's Value
- Senior guard Derrick Roland will miss the rest of the season after breaking his right leg on Dec. 22 against Washington. Roland was considered by many to be the top perimeter defender in the Big 12. He was the Aggies' No. 2 scorer, a team captain and perhaps the team's top leader.
- To illustrate Roland's importance to the team, because of foul trouble or injury he played fewer than 25 minutes in all three losses. His fewest minutes played came in the close losses to New Mexico (14 minutes, early foul trouble) and Washington (16 minutes, leg injury). He also got in foul trouble against West Virginia (24 minutes) and was on the bench during a key second-half run by the Mountaineers.
Player Notes
- Senior guard Donald Sloan has averaged 19.6 points over the last seven games and ranks fifth in the Big 12 in three-point accuracy (.438). Sloan ranks fourth in the league in overall field goal percentage (.497).
- Senior forward Bryan Davis has averaged 9.3 rebounds in the last four games.
- Sophomore guard Dash Harris ranks third in the Big 12 in assists/Turnover ratio (2.6). Harris had a career-high 6 steals against North Dakota on Tuesday. A&M is 16-1 when Harris has at least 3 assists in his career.
- Junior guard B.J. Holmes ranks fourth in the Big 12 in three-point accuracy (.443). Holmes has connected on 11-of-18 (.611) three-pointers in the last three games. He ranks No. 1 in A&M history in career three-point percentage (.420).
- Junior guard Derrek Lewis has averaged 6.0 points in the last two games. Prior to that, he had scored just 4 points all season.
Sophomore forward David Loubeau has scored at least 6 points in eight straight games.
