Series Notes
- Oklahoma leads the series, 28-4, but it is 3-3 in the last six meetings. The Sooners have won the last three games after the Aggies won the previous three.
- Oklahoma has an 11-3 record in College Station with an 8-3 mark at Reed Arena. A&M has won two of the last three games against the Sooners at Reed.
- Oklahoma won both games last year. The No. 5 Sooners posted a 69-63 win in College Station and the No. 2 Sooners rallied for 77-71 victory in Norman.
- Eight of the last nine games in the series were decided by single digits, including four straight at Reed Arena. Â
Game Notes
- The Aggies have lost two straight for the first time this season and are coming off a 72-67 overtime loss Saturday at No. 1-ranked Texas. The Sooners have won two straight and are coming off a 66-61 win Saturday at home against Missouri.
- A&M is 9-0 at home while Oklahoma is 1-2 in true road games.
- A&M has won 12 straight home games since last season, including four straight in Big 12 play.
- A&M is 25-2 at home in the last two seasons, with a 7-2 mark in Big 12 games. The Aggies are the only Big 12 team to win at least 15 home games in each of the previous five seasons.
- A&M has played six nationally-ranked opponents, tied for the fifth most in the country through Sunday's games. Ohio State has played eight ranked opponents, while Northwestern, Wisconsin and Indiana have each played seven.
- A&M played four nationally-ranked non-conference opponents (that doesn't even include New Mexico, which entered the rankings the next week), twice as many ranked non-conference foes as any other Big 12 team.
- A&M is 2-4 against ranked teams this season. The Aggies beat No. 19 Clemson (69-60) and No. 16 Minnesota (66-65) at the 76 Classic in Anaheim in November. The Aggies' five losses this season have all been to teams that have been ranked in the top 25 for multiple weeks this season (Texas, West Virginia, Washington, New Mexico and Kansas State).
About Oklahoma
- The Sooners finished 30-6 last season and placed second in the Big 12 with a 13-3 mark.
- Oklahoma is in its fourth season under Coach Jeff Capel.
- The Sooners are led by sophomore guard Willie Warren, who is averaging 17.8 points and 4.6 assists per game. Three other Oklahoma players also average in double figures.
Last Year in College Station
COLLEGE STATION (AP/Jan. 17, 2009) - Austin Johnson had 19 points and Blake Griffin added 16 as No. 6 Oklahoma held off a late rally by Texas A&M for a 69-63 victory. Oklahoma (17-1, 3-0 Big 12) allowed A&M to cut a 14-point second-half lead to two on a 3-pointer by Donald Sloan with about 2 minutes remaining. Johnson pushed the lead to 62-57 with a long 3-pointer about 30 seconds later. Johnson had four free throws and Griffin added two to secure the Sooners' fifth straight win. Griffin entered the game leading the league in rebounding with almost 14 a game, but grabbed just six. Josh Carter had 17 points for the Aggies (15-3, 1-2). B.J. Holmes added 11 points for the Aggies.
Last Year in Norman
NORMAN, Okla. (AP/Feb. 4, 2009) -- Taylor Griffin made a tiebreaking layup with 46.4 seconds left to complete No. 2-ranked Oklahoma's rally from a late nine-point deficit in a 77-71 victory over Texas A&M. The Sooners (22-1, 8-0 Big 12) blew a 15-point lead and found themselves trailing 68-59 with 6:25 to play before rallying behind the defense of Juan Pattillo. Pattillo blocked a dunk attempt by Donald Sloan as Oklahoma reeled off eight straight points to cut into the deficit before Griffin's game-winner. Blake Griffin had 16 points and 14 rebounds for his 19th double-double and Taylor Griffin finished with 13 points. Carter led the Aggies with 15 points, while Chinemelu Elonu added 13 points and 12 rebounds and Bryan Davis had 13 points. Â Carter and Nathan Walkup combined to score all of Texas A&M's points during a 13-0 run. Elonu fouled out with 5:36 left and A&M did not score another field goal.
Roland's Value
- Senior guard Derrick Roland will miss the rest of the season after breaking his right leg on Dec. 22 against Washington. Roland was considered by many to be the top perimeter defender in the Big 12. He was the Aggies' No. 2 scorer, a team captain and perhaps the team's top leader.
- To illustrate Roland's importance to the team, because of foul trouble or injury he played fewer than 25 minutes in all three losses. His fewest minutes played came in the close losses to New Mexico (14 minutes, early foul trouble) and Washington (16 minutes, leg injury). He also got in foul trouble against West Virginia (24 minutes) and was on the bench during a key second-half run by the Mountaineers.
Player Notes
- Senior guard Donald Sloan has averaged 19.5 points over the last nine games, despite scoring a season low 8 at Kansas State on Tuesday. He scored 21 vs. Texas on Saturday.
- Senior forward Bryan Davis is averaging 13.8 points in the last four games, reaching double figures in each game. He scored 17 on Saturday against Texas.
- Sophomore guard Dash Harris ranks third in the Big 12 in assists/turnover ratio (2.5). A&M is 17-2 when Harris has at least 3 assists in his career, losing only to Connecticut in the 2009 NCAAs and earlier this week at Kansas State. Harris grabbed a career-high 8 rebounds on Saturday at Texas.
Junior forward Nathan Walkup scored a career-high 13 points with a season-best 8 rebounds on Saturday at Texas.
