Series Notes

  1. Colorado leads the series, 9-7, but A&M has won six straight, including two straight in College Station. The Buffaloes last win in the series came in College Station in 2004 (76-70).
  2. The series is tied, 3-3, in games played in College Station. A&M has a 3-2 lead in games played at Reed Arena.
  3. A&M rallied for a 72-66 victory last year in Boulder to remain on track for a fourth straight NCAA Tournament bid. The Aggies posted an 86-69 victory two years ago at Reed Arena.

Game Notes

  1. The Aggies are coming off a 65-62 win against Oklahoma at home on Tuesday. The Buffaloes have lost two straight and are coming off a 90-78 loss at Oklahoma State on Wednesday.
  2. A&M is 10-0 at home while Colorado is 1-5 in true road games.
  3. A&M has won 13 straight home games since last season, including five straight in Big 12 play.
  4. A&M is 26-2 at home in the last two seasons, with an 8-2 mark in Big 12 games. The Aggies are the only Big 12 team to win at least 15 home games in each of the previous five seasons.
  5. A win vs. Colorado would make A&M 3-2 in Big 12 play, the second best start for the Aggies in the league's 14-year history. A&M started the 2007 Big 12 season 4-1 and later advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
  6. A&M has played six nationally-ranked opponents, twice as many as any other Big 12 team. A&M played four nationally-ranked non-conference opponents (that doesn't even include New Mexico, which entered the rankings the next week).
  7. A&M is 2-4 against ranked teams this season. The Aggies beat No. 19 Clemson (69-60) and No. 16 Minnesota (66-65) at the 76 Classic in Anaheim in November. The Aggies' five losses this season have all been to teams that have been ranked in the top 25 for multiple weeks this season (Texas, West Virginia, Washington, New Mexico and Kansas State).

About Colorado

  1. The Buffaloes finished 9-22 last season and placed 12th in the Big 12 with a 1-15 mark.
  2. Colorado is in its third season under Coach Jeff Bzdelik, a former head coach for the NBA's Denver Nuggets.
  3. The Buffaloes are led by senior guard Cory Higgins, who is averaging 18.6 points and 4.6 assists per game. Freshman guard Alec Burks is the top scoring freshman in the Big 12 with a 16.8 average.

Last Year in Boulder
BOULDER, Colo. (AP/March 4, 2009) -- Josh Carter scored 18 points, B.J. Holmes added 16 points and Texas A&M kept its NCAA tournament hopes alive with a 72-66 win over Colorado. The victory was the 200th of Coach Mark Turgeon's career. Donald Sloan had 14 for the Aggies (22-8, 8-7), who have won five straight heading into their final Big 12 game against No. 15 Missouri. Cory Higgins had a game-high 27 points for the Buffaloes (9-20, 1-14), who lost their 10th straight Big 12 game. The Aggies trailed 54-46 with 5:50 left before going on a 20-4 run to take control. They led 67-60 with less than a minute remaining when Colorado hit two 3-pointers to pull within 68-66. Texas A&M closed it out with four free throws in the final 15 seconds.

Last Time in College Station
COLLEGE STATION (AP/Jan. 12, 2008) -- Dominique Kirk scored 15 points and freshman DeAndre Jordan added 14 to lead 11th-ranked Texas A&M to an easy 86-69 victory over Colorado, their eighth straight win by at least 15 points. The only time the Aggies (15-1, 1-0) trailed was when a 3 by Cory Higgins made it 3-0 in the opening minute. At 15-1, A&M is off to its best start since the 1921-22 season. The Aggies led by 15 points at halftime and had built their lead to 61-42 after a layup by Bryan Davis about eight minutes into the second half. A dunk by Marcus King-Stockton capped a 12-6 run for Colorado and cut A&M's lead to 67-54. Kirk answered the run with a jump shot and a 3-pointer to put the game out of reach. Higgins had 15 points for the Buffaloes and Xavier Silas and Richard Roby added 14 apiece.

Roland's Value

  1. Senior guard Derrick Roland will miss the rest of the season after breaking his right leg on Dec. 22 against Washington. Roland was considered by many to be the top perimeter defender in the Big 12. He was the Aggies' No. 2 scorer, a team captain and perhaps the team's top leader.
  2. To illustrate Roland's importance to the team, because of foul trouble or injury he played fewer than 25 minutes in all three losses. His fewest minutes played came in the close losses to New Mexico (14 minutes, early foul trouble) and Washington (16 minutes, leg injury). He also got in foul trouble against West Virginia (24 minutes) and was on the bench during a key second-half run by the Mountaineers.

Player Notes

  1. Senior guard Donald Sloan has averaged 19.2 points over the last 10 games. He scored 16 vs. Oklahoma on Tuesday, including a key field goal and two free throws in the final minute to secure the win. Sloan is only the second player in A&M history (Bernard King, 1999-03) to score at least 1,200 points with 300 assists and 400 rebounds in a career.
  2. Senior forward Bryan Davis is averaging 12.8 points in the last  five games and has blocked a shot in 13 straight games.
  3. Sophomore guard Dash Harris leads the Big 12 in assists/turnover ratio (2.8). A&M is 18-2 when Harris has at least 3 assists in his career (15-0 at home), losing only to Connecticut in the 2009 NCAAs and earlier this season at Kansas State. Harris had 7 assists with 0 turnovers against Oklahoma on Tuesday.
  4. Junior forward Nathan Walkup scored a career-high 13 points with a season-best 8 rebounds last Saturday at Texas. He is averaging 7.4 points and 4.0 rebounds in the last eight games.
  5. Junior guard B.J. Holmes scored 13 points and went 3-of-8 on three-pointers against Colorado, ending an 0-of-13 slump to start Big 12 play.
  6. Freshman forward Khris Middleton is averaging 9.3 points and 5.3 rebounds in Big 12 play and has started in six straight games. He scored 11 points and had a team-high 7 rebounds vs. Oklahoma.
Junior guard Derrek Lewis scored 5 points with a career-high 4 rebounds against Oklahoma. He has made 6-of-11 (.545) from three-point range this season.
