Series Notes

  1. Oklahoma State leads the series, 29-13, but A&M has won five of the last eight meetings, including two of the last three in Stillwater. The home team won both games last year with OSU posting a 72-61 victory in Stillwater and the Aggies coming away with a 76-64 win in College Station.
  2. The Cowboys own a 13-4 edge in games played in Stillwater with a 12-2 mark at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
  3. In Mark Turgeon's first year at A&M in 2007-08, A&M posted a 59-56 victory in Stillwater, its second straight.

Game Notes

  1. The Aggies have won two straight and are coming off a 67-63 win against Colorado at home on Saturday. The Cowboys have also won two straight and are coming off a 73-69 win at No. 9 Kansas State on Saturday.
  2. A&M is 1-3 in true road games while Oklahoma State is 10-0 at home.
  3. A&M's 3-2 start in in Big 12 play is its second-best in the league's 14-year history. The 2006-07 team, which finished 27-7 and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16, started 4-1. A win against OSU would hand A&M its second-best start after six games behind the 2007 team's 5-1 start. A loss would still tie the Aggies for their second-best start with the 2007-08 and 2002-03 teams.
  4. A&M has played six nationally-ranked opponents, twice as many as any other Big 12 team. A&M played four nationally-ranked non-conference opponents (that doesn't even include New Mexico, which entered the rankings the next week).
  5. A&M is 2-4 against ranked teams this season. The Aggies beat No. 19 Clemson (69-60) and No. 16 Minnesota (66-65) at the 76 Classic in Anaheim in November. The Aggies' five losses have all been away from home to teams that have been ranked in the top 25 for multiple weeks this season (Texas, West Virginia, Washington, New Mexico and Kansas State).
  6. A&M's next six opponents -- Oklahoma State (28), Texas Tech (33), Missouri (47), Baylor (31), Texas Tech (33) and Kansas (2) -- are all ranked among the top 50 in the latest RPI released by the NCAA on Monday. The Aggies are ranked No. 37 in the RPI.
  7. A&M is one of three Big 12 schools with four or more players who have made at least four three-pointers in a game this season -- B.J. Holmes (5 vs. Washington and North Dakota), Donald Sloan (4 vs. New Mexico, 5 vs. Samford), Nathan Walkup (4 vs. The Citadel) and Khris Middleton (4 vs. Prairie View A&M). Oklahoma (5 players) and Missouri (4 players) are the others.
  8. A&M is 17-of-94 (.181) on three-pointers in Big 12 play. In non-conference play, the Aggies made .370.
  9. The Aggies have shot better than 50 percent from the field in six games this season. A&M is 27-0 under Mark Turgeon's when it makes at least 50 percent and is 44-5 when it makes better than 45 percent.
  10. A&M is 13-2 this season when at least three players score in double figures.
  11. A&M averages 28.9 free throws per game, second most in the league behind Kansas State (33.8).
  12. A&M is 14-0 this season with its opponent scores fewer than 70 points and has won 18 straight. A&M is 55-9 under Turgeon when its opponent scores fewer than 70 points.
  13. In Big 12 play, A&M leads the league in scoring defense (67.6) and ranks third in field goal defense (.404).
  14. A&M has allowed just 59.3 points in its three Big 12 wins, but has given up 80.0 points in the two losses.
  15. A&M has held 15 opponents under 43 percent shooting from the field. Under Turgeon, the Aggies are 51-9 when their opponent shoots under 45 percent and are 35-4 when they make under 40 percent

About Oklahoma State

  1. The Cowboys finished 23-12 last season and tied for fourth (A&M, Texas, K-State) in the Big 12 with a 9-7 mark.
  2. Oklahoma State is in its second season under Coach Travis Ford.
  3. The Cowboys are led by senior guard James Anderson, who leads the Big 12 in scoring with a 22.3 average.

Last Year in Stillwater
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP/Jan. 10, 2009) - Marshall Moses set career highs with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and the Cowboys beat Texas A&M 72-61 in coach Travis Ford's Big 12 debut. Byron Eaton and Terrel Harris hit 3-pointers to give Oklahoma State breathing room after the Aggies cut a 16-point deficit to two in the closing minutes of the first half. Obi Muonelo's jumper and 3-pointer started a 10-0 run that stretched the Cowboys' edge to 55-38 with about 13 minutes left., although A&M managed to trim the deficit to eight late in the game.  Chinemelu Elonu led A&M with a career-high 20 points, and reserve B.J. Holmes scored a career-best 19. Josh Carter, the Aggies' leading scorer, was held scoreless.

Last Year in College Station
COLLEGE STATION (AP/Jan. 31, 2009) -Bryan Davis had 18 points to lead four Texas A&M players in double figures and the Aggies got a 76-64 win over Oklahoma State. The Aggies led by 14 at halftime A&M made 11 free throws in the last five minutes to secure the win.
Oklahoma State was led by Harris with 17 points.

Roland's Value

  1. Senior guard Derrick Roland will miss the rest of the season after breaking his right leg on Dec. 22 against Washington. Roland was considered by many to be the top perimeter defender in the Big 12. He was the Aggies' No. 2 scorer, a team captain and perhaps the team's top leader.
  2. To illustrate Roland's importance to the team, because of foul trouble or injury he played fewer than 25 minutes in all three losses. His fewest minutes played came in the close losses to New Mexico (14 minutes, early foul trouble) and Washington (16 minutes, leg injury). He also got in foul trouble against West Virginia (24 minutes) and was on the bench during a key second-half run by the Mountaineers.
  3. In his last three games against A&M, Oklahoma State's James Anderson was guarded primarily by Roland and averaged just 7.7 points while making 33.3 percent (8-24) from the field and 20.0 percent (2-10) from three-point range. Anderson is the Big 12's leading scorer this season with a 22.3 average.

Player Notes

  1. Senior guard Donald Sloan has scored in double figures in all three of his previous appearances in Stillwater. Sloan is only the second player in A&M history (Bernard King, 1999-03) to score at least 1,200 points with 300 assists and 400 rebounds in a career.
  2. Senior forward Bryan Davis is averaging 12.3 points in the last  six games and has blocked a shot in 14 straight games. He scored 12 points (6-6 FG) with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks in the win vs. Colorado.
  3. Sophomore guard Dash Harris leads the Big 12 in assists/turnover ratio (2.9), ranking 19th nationally. A&M is 19-2 when Harris has at least 3 assists in his career (16-0 at home), losing only to Connecticut in the 2009 NCAAs and earlier this season at Kansas State. Harris has had 14 assists and only 3 turnovers in 66 minutes in the last two games.
  4. Junior forward Nathan Walkup scored a career-high 16 points with a season-best 8 rebounds against Colorado. He is averaging 8.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in the last nine games.
  5. Junior guard B.J. Holmes scored 19 points (4-9 treys) against Oklahoma State last year in Stillwater.
  6. Freshman forward Khris Middleton is averaging 8.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in Big 12 play and has started in seven straight games.
  7. Junior guard Derrek Lewis is from Tulsa, where he led Union HS to a 26-1 record and the state semifinals as a senior. He was a high school rival of OSU guard Nick Sidorakis, who played at Jenks High School.
A&M assistant coach Pooh Williamson is from Beggs, Okla., where he led Beggs High School to consecutive Class 2A state titles. As an all-conference point guard, he went on to lead Tulsa to consecutive NCAA Tournaments in 1994 and 1995. He later served as an assistant coach at Tulsa and was interim head coach for the later part of the 2004-05 season
