TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 6-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team opens its spring season Monday at the Arizona Invitational at Arizona National Golf Club.
The 14-team field will play 36 holes on Monday and a final 18 on Tuesday. Live scoring is available online at golfstat.com.
Other teams competing are No. 3 Florida, No. 24 San Diego State, California, Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico, Northern Colorado, Pepperdine, Texas-El Paso, Texas-San Antonio, UNLV and host Arizona (two squads).
Representing A&M will be juniors Andrea Pavan, sophomore Geoff Shaw and freshman Cameron Peck. Sophomore Jordan Russell will play as an individual.
"It is hard to believe that we are getting started already but I think the guys did a terrific job of keeping their games sharp over the break and they seem really eager to get out there and compete," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "This tournament has some really good teams in it so I hope we are ready. Arizona National is a good course but unless the wind blows, it is pretty scoreable. The par 5s are reachable and some of the par 4s are just little wedge shots ,so we should have some good birdie opportunities and a chance to post some low scores. I'm very excited about this group and it would be nice to pick up where we left off in the fall."
The Aggies finished in the top five in all four fall tournaments, closing the schedule with consecutive wins at the Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio and the Baylor Intercollegiate in Dallas. Pavan leads the Aggies with a 72.17 stroke average.
