Series Notes

  1. Missouri leads the series, 11-7, but A&M has won five straight, including two straight in Columbia.
  2. The Aggies are 2-0 in the Mizzou Arena, posting a 77-69 win in 2008 and a 54-51 victory in 2006. Missouri has a 5-2 edge in all games played in Columbia.
  3. The Aggies upset the 12th-ranked Tigers, 96-86, last year in College Station.

Game Notes

  1. Both teams are coming off 15-point home wins on Saturday. The Aggies beat Texas Tech (85-70) and Missouri downed Oklahoma State (95-80).
  2. A&M is 1-4  (0-3 Big 12) in true road games while Missouri is 13-0 at home (3-0 Big 12). The Tigers have won 32 straight home games, the nation's second-longest home winning streak behind Kansas (54).
  3. A&M's 4-3 start in Big 12 play ties for its second-best in the league's 14-year history. The 2006-07 team, which finished 27-7 and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16, started 6-1. Mark Turgeon's first A&M team in 2007-08 also started 4-3 en route to an 8-8 finish. A&M started 3-7 last year but closed with six straight wins to finish 9-7.
  4. A&M has played six nationally-ranked opponents, the most of any Big 12 team. A&M played four nationally-ranked non-conference opponents (that doesn't include New Mexico, which entered the rankings the next week). The Aggies' schedule-to-date is ranked as the 21st-toughest nationally by CBS Sports.
  5. Starting with the Oklahoma State game on Jan. 27, A&M plays six straight games against teams ranked in the top 40 in the RPI.
  6. A&M is 2-4 against ranked teams this season. The Aggies beat No. 19 Clemson (69-60) and No. 16 Minnesota (66-65) at the 76 Classic in Anaheim in November. Five of the Aggies' six losses have been to teams that have been ranked in the top 25 for multiple weeks this season (Texas, West Virginia, Washington, New Mexico and Kansas State). The other loss was at Oklahoma State, one of the nation's toughest venues).
  7. A&M leads the Big 12 in fewest turnovers, averaging just 11.3 overall and 10.3 in Big 12 play. The Aggies rank 18th nationally. A&M set a school record for Big 12 play with 4 turnovers against Texas Tech.
  8. A&M is 11-0 this season when it has at least 13 assists. The Aggies are 48-5 under Turgeon when they 13 or more assists.
  9. A&M is 15-0 this season when they have the lead going into the last five minutes.
  10. A&M and Oklahoma are the only Big 12 teams with five players who have made at least four three-pointers in a game this season -- B.J. Holmes (5 vs. Washington and North Dakota), Donald Sloan (4 vs. New Mexico, 5 vs. Samford and Oklahoma State), Nathan Walkup (4 vs. The Citadel), Dash Harris (4 vs. Oklahoma State) and Khris Middleton (4 vs. Prairie View A&M). A&M is 29-of-134 (.216) on three-pointers through seven Big 12 games but made 10-of-24 (.417) at Oklahoma State. In non-conference play, the Aggies made .370.
  11. The Aggies have shot better than 50 percent from the field in six games this season. A&M is 27-0 under Mark Turgeon's when it makes at least 50 percent and is 45-6 at home when it makes better than 45 percent.
  12. A&M averages 28.3 free throws per game, second most in the league behind Kansas State (32.4).
  13. A&M is 14-0 this season with its opponent scores fewer than 70 points and has won 18 straight. A&M is 56-9 under Turgeon when its opponent scores fewer than 70 points.
  14. The Aggies are 9-1 this year, and 43-5 under Turgeon, when they score at least 70 points.
  15. In Big 12 play, A&M ranks second in the league in scoring defense (69.1).
  16. A&M has allowed just 62.0 points in its four Big 12 wins, but has given up 78.7 points in the three losses.
  17. A&M had a season-high 19 offensive rebounds vs. Texas Tech, resulting in a season-best 19 second chance points.
  18. A&M is 12-2 when it scores more points off turnovers than its opponent. The Aggies have averaged 15.3 points off turnovers in the last three games.
  19. A&M is 14-3 when it has at least three players scoring in double figures.
  20. A&M is 13-2 this season when its opponent shoots under 43 percent from the field. Under Turgeon, the Aggies are 35-4 when their opponent shoots under 40 percent.
  21. The Aggies set a home attendance record with 13,648 vs. Texas Tech.
  22. A&M's senior class needs 8 wins to become the winningest class in school history. The class already ranks No. 2 at A&M.

About Missouri

  1. The Tigers finished 31-7 last season and placed third in the Big 12 with a 12-4 mark. Missouri won the Big 12 tournament and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.
  2. Missouri is in its third season under Coach Mike Anderson. The Tigers have seven players averaging at least 8.0 points per game, led by sophomore guard Kim English (14.8).
  3. Three of A&M and Missouri's four league wins have come against common opponents -- Nebraska, Texas Tech and Oklahoma. The Tigers opened league play with a 74-68 home win against Kansas State.

Last Year in College Station
COLLEGE STATION (AP/March 7, 2009) -- Texas A&M won its sixth straight, 96-86 over No. 12 Missouri to secure its fourth straight NCAA Tournament berth. B.J. Holmes both had 13 points for the Aggies. A win would have given the Tigers a chance for a share of the Big 12 title for the first time in school history.

Last Time in Columbia
COLUMBIA, Mo.(AP/Feb.9,2008)--Donald Sloan scored a career-high 21 points, and No. 18 Texas A&M took control with a 15-point run to open the second half of a 77-69 victory over Missouri. Bryan Davis had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Josh Carter added 14 points for the Aggies (20-4, 6-3 Big 12), who had a dominating 42-25 rebounding advantage and shot 56 percent in the second half to win their fifth straight game. Leo Lyons had a career-best 24 points off the bench for Missouri. Sloan went 7-for-8 from the line and scored nine points in the final 1:12. He was 6-for-8 from the field and 9-for-10 from the line overall, while Davis earned his second career double-double.  Keon Lawrence had 13 points and reserve Justin Safford added a career-best 10 points for the Tigers. A&M shot only 39 percent in the first half and trailed 30-25 as Missouri shot 50 percent. The Aggies hit their stride after the break, hitting five of their first eight attempts in a 15-0 run for a 10-point cushion with about 15 minutes to go. Missouri was outrebounded 10-1 during A&M's opening salvo, while missing its first five shots.

Roland's Value

  1. Senior guard Derrick Roland will miss the rest of the season after breaking his right leg on Dec. 22 against Washington. Roland was considered by many to be the top perimeter defender in the Big 12. He was the Aggies' No. 2 scorer, a team captain and perhaps the team's top leader.
  2. To illustrate Roland's importance to the team, because of foul trouble or injury he played fewer than 25 minutes in all three losses. His fewest minutes played came in the close losses to New Mexico (14 minutes, early foul trouble) and Washington (16 minutes, leg injury). He also got in foul trouble against West Virginia (24 minutes) and was on the bench during a key second-half run by the Mountaineers.

Depleted Roster

  1. When last season ended, Coach Turgeon thought he would have four senior starters returning in 2009-10. But All-Big 12 center Chinemelu Elonu opted to remain in the NBA Draft and was chosen late in the second round by the Los Angeles Lakers. Then Roland was lost before the Christmas break to a season-ending broken leg.
  2. In addition,  Turgeon expected to have the services of freshmen big men Kourtney Roberson (6-9, 230) and Ray Turner (6-8, 220) when fall practice began. However, Roberson did not qualify and Turner was not cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse to even practice until mid-December. A&M re-signed Roberson, who is attending a prep school, in November as part of the 2010 recruiting class.
  3. In addition, DeAndre Jordan entered the 2008 NBA Draft after his freshman season. He would have been a junior this year. Jordan was a second-round pick by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Player Notes

  1. Senior guard Donald Sloan has averaged 27.5 points in the last two games, scoring 27 at Oklahoma State and 28 against Texas Tech. Sloan is only the second player in A&M history (Bernard King, 1999-03) to score at least 1,300 points with 300 assists and 400 rebounds in a career. He has scored in double figures in three straight games against Missouri, including a 21-point effort in Columbia in 2008. Sloan ranks second in the Big 12 in league play in free throws made (47) and attempted (57).
  2. Senior forward Bryan Davis has had two straight double-doubles against Missouri. He scored 12 points with 10 rebounds last year and contributed 14 points and 11 boards in Columbia in 2008. Davis is averaging 11.7 points in Big 12 play and ranks third in the league in blocked shots (2.6).
  3. Sophomore guard Dash Harris leads the Big 12 and ranks 20th nationally in assists/turnover ratio (2.7). A&M is 20-2 when Harris has at least 3 assists in his career (17-0 at home), losing only to Connecticut in the 2009 NCAAs and earlier this season at Kansas State. Harris scored a career-high 14 points at Oklahoma Stat last Wednesday, making a career-best 4-of-9 three-pointers.
  4. Junior forward Nathan Walkup is averaging 7.0 points and 4.4 rebounds in Big 12 play.
  5. Junior guard B.J. Holmes scored 13 points with 4 assists against Missouri last year in College Station.
  6. Freshman forward Khris Middleton is averaging 7.0 points and 4.1 rebounds in Big 12 play.
Sophomore forward David Loubeau has averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in the last two games. He scored a Big 12 career-high 19 against Texas Tech, and tied career highs for rebounding (9), assists (3) and blocks (2).
