FORT WORTH - Senior Caroline Gunn became the first rider in school history to reach the 50-win milestone under the modern varsity equestrian format on Friday, as the third-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team dropped a 5-3 decision in a western competition to TCU on Friday evening at the Fort Worth Stock Show inside John Justin Arena.
Gunn downed TCU's Lyndsi Hardin, 147-142, in a horsemanship ride to move her all-time record to 50-7-3 as a member of the Aggie equestrian program.
The Horned Frogs (7-5) staked themselves to an early lead by claiming three of the four rides in reining. The lone victory for A&M (6-4) came thanks to sophomore Maggie Gratny claimed MVP honors despite losing by a half-point to TCU's Kelsey Huffman.
Gunn teamed with freshman Carey Nowacek to score A&M's points in horsemanship. Nowacek took home MVP honors following a 150-147 victory over Huffman.
Texas A&M wraps up a three-show road swing next Saturday when the Aggies head to Waco to face the Baylor Bears. The show is set to begin at 10 a.m.
