The No. 1 ranked Aggie track and field teams will host its second Texas A&M Challenge this Saturday at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, featuring a scored meet between three conferences - Big 12, SEC and Conference USA.

Teams representing the Big 12 this weekend are Texas A&M, Texas and Texas Tech. The SEC will have Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. Competing for Conference USA are Houston, Rice and UTEP.

The Texas A&M Challenge will begin at noon with prelims in the 60 hurdles and 60 meters. Field event finals start at 1 p.m. while track finals begin at 2 p.m.

This is the last regular season meet for the Aggies prior to postseason action with the Big 12 Championships being held in two weeks and the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.

Following a successful weekend in New York, where the No. 1 Aggies claimed a pair of team titles, Texas A&M will host its fourth meet of the indoor season. In the last Challenge the Aggies hosted the Big 12 outscored the SEC and Pac-10 to win the men's and women's conference titles.

Some exciting showdowns will occur in various events at Gilliam on Saturday as teams go through final preparations for upcoming conference meets. There are also quite a few athletes making a return visit from the NCAA Indoor Championships hosted on the Texas A&M campus last March.

Defending NCAA Champions from a year ago include Rice's Jason Colwick in the pole vault, Texas A&M women's 4 x 400 relay, and Tennessee women's distance medley relay. NCAA silver medalists include Porscha Lucas (200), Jessica Beard (400), Phoebe Wright of Tennessee (800), Texas Tech's Gil Roberts (400), and Omo Osaghae of Texas Tech (60H),

Other NCAA finalists returning to Gilliam include Zuheir Sharif, Tyron Stewart and Melvin Echard in the triple jump.
