COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M freshman Meagan May was named the first Big 12 Softball Player of the Week for the 2010 season.

In her collegiate debut, May led the Aggies in every offensive category with a .533 batting average, eight hits, three doubles, three home runs, 10 RBIs, six runs, a 1.333 slugging percentage and a .632 on base percentage. She started every game and only struck out once in 15 at bats.

The catcher from Spring, Texas, was instrumental in A&M's 4-1 record on the weekend, which included an upset of No. 11 California. May went 2-for-4 with a home run in the Aggies' loss to No. 5 Arizona State and hit a game-tying, three-run homer to help the team comeback against Nevada.

In addition, May scored two runs and drove in two runs with a double in A&M's 11-run first inning against Wisconsin. In the team's final game versus Cal State Northridge, she went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run. May tallied four RBIs and scored a run, to be involved in five of the Aggies' eight scores.

The Big 12 honor was the first of May's career.

With the help of May's outstanding play, the Texas A&M softball team was ranked No. 21 in this week's ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll. The Aggies were receiving votes towards a ranking in the preseason poll, but jumped into the top 25 after their stellar opening weekend.
