SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii - Freshman Cameron Peck fired a five-under-par 67 on Thursday to lift No. 5-ranked Texas A&M into second place after two rounds of the John Burns Intercollegiate at Leilehua Golf Course.

All six A&M players shot par or better as the Aggies posted a team score of 13-under. A&M's 16-under total trails leader California (-16) by two strokes going into Friday's final round. No. 23 UNLV is in third at 14-under.

Peck is in third place in the individual standings at six-under (71-67=138), two strokes behind leader Stephen Hale of California (65-71=136). UNLV's Derek Ernst is in second at 68-69=137. A&M's Andrea Pavan is in eighth place at 70-69=139.

Other A&M scores are Nacho Elvira (73-68=141), Jordan Russell (71-71=142) and Geoff Shaw (73-72=145). Competing as an individual, freshman Case Cochran is at 75-68=143. Cochran's four-under 68 on Wednesday was the best round of his college career.

"We had a terrific round today," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "Everybody shot par or better and Case had his first under-par round for us. The whole team felt like they could have played even better. It's fun to be in contention and to have a chance to win the tournament going into the final round."

The Aggies won two tournaments in the fall.
