Texas A&M was represented by 23 student-athletes on the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 Swimming & Diving Team, including six that received special recognition for perfect 4.0 grade point averages, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
           The A&M women's team put a league-leading 18 swimmers and divers on the academic honor team, including an impressive 16 first-teamers (3.2 GPA or higher). The Aggie men put five student-athletes on the team, including three first-teamers.
           Receiving special recognition for perfect GPAs were six members of the women's team - sophomore Lauren Clifford, sophomore Ella Doerge, senior Emily Neal, senior Julia Wilkinson and senior Sarah Woods.
           Also earning first-team honors from the women's team were senior Alia Atkinson, junior Melissa Hain, senior Haley Haynes, senior Kristen Heiss, junior Casey Hurrell-Zitelman, junior Emily Watson.
           Earning first-team honors from the men's team were seniors Jason Bergstrom, Henry Stevens and Casey Strange.
           Receiving second-team Academic All-Big 12 honors were senior Rebekah Love and Andres Van Dam and sophomore Amini Fonua from the men's team.
           All 23 student-athletes will be in action at the 2010 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be contested Wednesday through Saturday at the Student Recreation Natatorium on the Texas A&M campus.
