Texas A&M head coach Pat Henry was named Big 12 women's coach of the year for the 2010 indoor season. It's the fourth consecutive honor for Henry as the Aggie women totaled 130.5 points to finish ahead of Texas Tech (115) and Nebraska (96) for a fourth straight Big 12 Indoor team title.
The men's coach of the year honor went to Oklahoma's Martin Smith. Texas Tech freshman jumper Bryce Lamb claimed the indoor performer of the year honor along with outstanding freshman accolades. Women's honors went to Iowa State's distance runner Lisa Koll as indoor performer of the year and Texas Tech's pole vaulter Shade Weygandt was named outstanding freshman.
Bowerman Watch List
Texas A&M added another athlete to the group receiving mention for the women's 2010 Bowerman Award. Gabby Mayo became a recent addition following her high point performance at the Big 12 Indoor Championship when she scored 25 points off a pair of wins in the 60 meters and 60 hurdles along with a fourth-place effort in the 200 meters.
Porscha Lucas, a finalist in 2009, and Jessica Beard are on the women's watch list while Tabarie Henry is receiving mention on the men's watch list.
Cross Country Academic Honors
Mitch Bible and Joe Sauvageau each were honored by the USTFCCCA this week when they were awarded NCAA Division I Cross Country All-Academic status. A total of 58 athletes from 35 schools were selected for the men's honor from the 2009 cross country season. Bible is majoring in mechanical engineering while Sauvageau is majoring in petroleum engineering.
The award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the honor a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must finish among the top 15 finishers (or top 10 percent) of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet.
