Aggies Tie for Third at Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - No. 7-ranked Texas A&M closed with an 18-over-par 306 on Sunday and tied for third place at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters at Southern Highlands Golf Club.

No. 14 UNLV and No. 12 UCLA shared the team title at 35-over, nine strokes ahead of A&M (+44) and No. 15 Southern California. No. 19 Texas Tech placed fifth (+47), followed by No. 13 Arizona State (+49), No. 4 Texas (+55), No. 22 TCU (+56), No. 20 Georgia Tech (+64), Tennessee (+64), No;. 1 Oklahoma State (+68), New Mexico (+71), No. 16 Georgia (+71), No. 6 Florida (+73) and Arizona (+74).

A&M senior Andrea Pavan (70-79-74=223) and junior Nacho Elvira (77-73-73=223) tied for eighth, sophomore Jordan Russell (74-76-79=229) tied for 21st, freshman Cameron Peck (74-80-80=234) tied for 37th and sophomore Geoff Shaw (81-79-85=245) tied for 72nd. Junior John Hurley, competing as an individual, tied for 72nd at 80-83-82=245.

Arizona State's Jesper Kennegard captured the individual crown by one stroke with a three-over total of 71-72-76=219.

"We can't be too disappointed to finish tied for third in this field, " A&M Coach J.T. Higgins. "We beat a lot of quality teams and fought hard all week. The course was set up extremely difficult and the conditions were tough all week, but we came away with a good showing. Nacho played super golf and Andrea birdied three of last four holes to get us into the top five."
