CAROLINA, Puerto Rico - Eight victories highlighted the second day of action for Texas A&M at the 5th annual Carolina Spring Break Classic. Six of those wins included a meet record for the Aggies.

In addition to A&M there were U.S. teams from Colgate, Boston University, Florida International, and University of Albany. Other teams competing were from Puerto Rico.

Access to the beach and touring San Juan during the week were options for the athletes competing. Also included were police escorts for the team buses traveling from the hotel to the track complex each day.

Setting meet records for the Texas A&M women were Natasha Ruddock, who won the 100 hurdles with a 13.50 into a 2.1 headwind, as well as relay squads in the 4 x 100 (44.10) and 4 x 400 (3:46.79).

Members of the sprint relay included Elizabeth Adeoti, Elizabeth Adeoti and Daphne Fitzpatrick.

Aggie men achieving a meet record with their victory included Melvin Echard, who won the long jump with a windy 24-9 3/4 and had a legal back-up of 23-11 1/2; Nick Cook, with a 54-3 1/4 toss in the shot put; and the 4 x 400 relay (3:07.44).

Running on the men's 4 x 400 were Kyle Dykhuizen.

Also achieving wins in the meet were Tiffany Peters, who claimed the triple jump with a windy 41-5 leap and had a wind-legal 41-4.25 in her series, and Gerald Phiri, who ran 10.57 into a -2.1 headwind to take the 100.

Texas A&M also registered nine runner-up efforts in the meet with Andrea Sutherland topping that list with a 58.42 clocking in the 400 hurdles. That places her as the No. 4 performer on the Aggie all-time list.

Also finishing second in the meet were Dominique Duncan (11.89) in the 100, Vashti Thomas (13.95) in the 100 hurdles, Taylor Rosser (44-2) in the shot put, Emalie Humphreys (138-4) in the discus, as well as another 4 x 100 (46.04) and 4 x 400 (3:50.52) unit for the women.

Running on the second sprint relay were Sasha-Kay Matthias and Ashika Charan. The second 4x4 crew consisted of Donique' Flemings, Andrea Sutherland, Brittany Machacek, and Bonnie Richardson.

Runner-up performances for the men included Trinity Otto, Oscar Ramirez and Michael Preble.

Other noteworthy efforts for the Aggies included a pair of 21.18 clockings in the 200 for Curtis Mitchell took third in the 100 with a 10.60.

Kyle Dykhuizen ran 47.77 for fourth in the 400. A 4:35.93 for Natosha Rogers enabled her to place fourth in the 1,500. James Bonn also finished fourth in the men's 1,500 with a 3:57.08.
