A trio of even-par rounds by seniors Julia Boland and Ashley Freeman and junior Sarah Zwartynski kept the Texas A&M women's golf team in contention at the 37th annual Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational on Saturday at the University of Texas Golf Club.

The No. 25 Aggies tied for the second-lowest round of the day with a 290, and climbed to third in the team standings behind top-ranked UCLA and Arizona. For the tournament, the Aggies are 13-over and trail the Bruins by four strokes (+9) and the Wildcats by three strokes (+10). The three teams separated themselves from the field as fourth-place TCU trails the Aggies by 10 strokes.

“I am so proud of these girls and the way they played today,” A&M head women's golf coach Trelle McCombs said. “Toward the end of the round, it started getting rough out there. We lost a couple of shots coming in but overall it was a great round. I think we are in a good position for Sunday. I saw that both the men's and women's teams are in third (men's team at the Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga.) going into the final round. It would be nice to see both teams come up with a win on Sunday.”

Boland, Freeman and Zwartynski all carded even-par scores of 72. Zwartynski remained atop the leaderboard (tied with UCLA's Stephanie Kono) at two-under par (70-72=142), while Boland climbed into medalist contention (t-6th) at plus-two for the tournament (74-72=146). Freeman climbed 10 spots into a tie for 12th at plus-four (76-72=148).

Freshman Sarah Beth Davis shot a solid 74 to move up to a tie for 45th (81-74=155), and freshman Chloe Garner carded her second straight 79 to stay in a tie for 63rd (79-7=158). Playing as an individual, freshman Aly Smith shot an 80 and is in a tie for 69th (79-80=159).
